Book Review - Red Queen

"You don't see us, and so we are everywhere. And we will rise up, red as the dawn."

This book can be summed up in two words: Mind blowing. This book is truly amazing and it's right there on the list of book that exploded my brain. It is a short list. Mare, the main character, can be described as a lot like Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. By that I mean that they share a lot of characteristics. They are both strong female leads that commit illegal acts in order to survive. They both don't take s*** from anyone and can't just watch as something, that they know is wrong, is happening. They must act. There is a love triangle in this story but it's not a bad love triangle. It doesn't take center stage. Mare is like this anomaly in a world that the Silvers have got perfectly calculated. She is a red-blooded girl with the abilities of a silver-blooded person, something that has never been seen before. Furthermore, she has the one thing that gave Silvers dominance over Reds and so she is a threat to their power and their dominion. The threat must be neutralized. The ending was a total surprise to me. Some would argue that it was predictable and looking back now, it kinda was but then, when I was in the moment, it was a total shock.

Final Verdict: This book is one that fans of The Hunger Games or The Selection will probably like.
