Book Review - Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children

Publisher's summary: A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs.

A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with this book. From the summary and the book trailer. I expected it to be an awesome horror book but it was more of a fantasy book really. That being said, it wasn't a bad book. I really loved the addition of the photos. They gave the book something extra and it was a unique element that added to the visualisation of the plot. The beginning was definitely creepy and the photos just added to the creep factor but the creepiness dwindled as the book went on. Reading this book was really like riding a roller coaster. There were times were times of extreme excitement and times of extreme boredom. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children isn’t a bad story. Not by any means. It’s a decent story in an eye-catching book and features a new paranormal world that will surely fascinate tons of people. However, all of the attention put to the looks, the plot and the action left the characters to suffer. Plus, there is one major issue with the fantasy aspect that was never explained and that itself bothered me more than anything else.

Final Verdict: It is a good book but not what it is made out to be.

Will I read the rest of the series: Maybe.

Rating: 3.75/5
